Nepal

Nepal has an extraordinary landscape with eight of the world’s tallest mountains and is part of the Hindu Kush Himalayan region, often called the ‘Third Pole’. Nepal’s water systems regulate the global climate, and Himalayan glaciers and rivers feed major waterways like the Ganges, which support over a billion people in South Asia. Rural Nepalese communities are at the forefront of climate change, and the country’s dramatically varied geography can make it difficult for people to access water, sanitation and hygiene.

As reported by the World Bank, Nepal is one of the poorest nations in the world, and UN Development says that in 2023, 17.4% of Nepalis are still multi-dimensionally poor, meaning they can’t afford basic necessities.

We are working closely with rural communities, particularly to rejuvenate declining springs to enable them to access sustainable water, whilst strengthening governance for water, sanitation and hygiene across Nepal.
